Stradivarius and Song: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
Saturday May 13, 7:30 p.m.
PRE-CONCERT TALK at 7:00 PM, featuring guest violinist Andréa Tyniec demonstrating what makes a Stradivarius such a special cultural and musical artifact.
In 2015, violinist Andréa Tyniec so impressed the jurors at the Canada Council’s Instrument Bank auditions that she was awarded a three-year loan of the country’s most renowned string instrument: a rare Stradivarius violin. In Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, we feature music for solo violin and choir in which the composers acknowledge their debts to music of the past: Bach based on Lutheran chorales, Bergs based on Bach, Gjeilo, Bruckner and Duruflé based on chant, and many others.
Location: The Church of St John the Evangelist 320 Charlton Avenue West Hamilton, ON
